With all the negative AI Christmas ad chat, we thought we’d see how we could approach it.

A few quick santa sketches later and we’d stumbled on this East End Santa- AI puppetry idea. 

All pre and post production on our new 30” Christmas spot was made the old-fashioned way with humans (remember them?), brains (questionable), storyboards, arguments, biscuits, more arguments. Who took the last biscuit?

Then we tried to tame the unpredictable beast of AI to execute our ideas.
The result? A pretty silly, grime-driven, East End, wide boy Santa rap, feat. a young twerking Pat Butcher, of course!

Our initial takeaway from using AI in production?

AI already plays a useful role in certain stages of some film productions. It’s still pretty wild and untamed — which leads to happy accidents, but also plenty of frustrating ones. Getting the performance you want from AI-generated puppets often involves a lot of prompt-tweaking and pleading. That said, the technology is improving rapidly. Still, nothing can replace the magic of being on set, surrounded by highly talented artists collaborating in real time.
